Straight to the point. I
am going to talk about the non- profit organisation working in India- TEACH FOR
INDIA. ‘Teach for India’ is a part of the global initiative ‘Teach for All’
which works on improving education for kids across the countries.
Yesterday, I attended a
presentation by the organization which happened to be inspirational and
motivating. It started with the figures showing the percentage of children in
India who are lucky enough to complete the primary education and higher
studies. It was startling for me and my friends who were assembled there. About
90% of India's younger generation do not complete their primary education and
cannot even enroll for college education.
This makes everyone who
can go to college fortunate well enough that we can manage to buy a new
textbook when it is needed. Remember how we used to cry for new bags, water
bottles and umbrellas every time the school reopens after vacations. Now think
about those unfortunate kids who are not getting education not even primary
level, who dwells in the slums. How would an economy progress if the kids,
tomorrow's citizens are not getting educated?
The organization works
on providing education to that unfortunate section of the society by recruiting
graduates as a part of their paid fellowship program. After seeing the whole
interactive presentation, we were sure that this organization surely made a
drastic change in many people’s lives and brought smile to their faces. They
showed us the story of a girl, Jyoti, who belongs to the slums of Mumbai from
her childhood to where she has reached now. She was little when she was brought
under the hands of TEACH FOR INDIA. She was not confident, couldn’t speak English
well, couldn’t even dream high. Now, she is shown to speak in English in front
of a large crowd about how this organization and her teacher have helped her to
reach till here. She is currently studying in St. Xavier’s college, Mumbai.
Now, it is our chance- to
help the organization, to help these kids, to help our country’s future. We, as
today’s young generation can work to erase the educational inequity which will
surely affect our country’s’ tomorrow adversely. As the organization’s motto
says; when it rains, you are given a chance to sit out or dance. I hope you
dance. I hope you dance.
